Chepstow Racing

The Welsh town of Chepstow is situated close to the border with England and Gloucestershire. The town and surrounding Monmouthshire area have many attractions for visitors, most notably Chepstow Castle but the name will always be synonymous with horse racing. Since 1929 Chepstow racing has provided a great day out and the thrilling spectacle of horseracing to delighted visitors to the town and to locals who are rightly proud of the status of their racecourse as the home of the Welsh Grand National and other the flat racing and National Hunt fixtures hosted throughout the year.

Chepstow Racing, inside rail An oval, left-handed track, 2 miles in circumference, Chepstow has an undulating surface and run in of five furlongs. There is a long straight which hosts all races up to a mile and the track is considered a real challenge of stamina in longer races, especially when the going is soft. In jump races the last five fences, including a final open ditch, are close together and require real nimble precision from the horses.

While this makes for some extremely thrilling close finishes, strong contenders at Chepstow racing are front running course specialists known for staying the distance.

The National Hunt fixtures are the main events at Chepstow and the Welsh Grand National is the highlight of the season.

Held each year over the Christmas holidays it presents a wonderful opportunity for a family day out as well as attracting a good race crowd from further afield. Another first class fixture is the Tote Silver Trophy Handicap Hurdle, held in October. As may be expected from Chepstow, the course is situated in a wonderful rural locale, within Piercefield Park in the Wye Valley and the location, close to the border means the course may be easily accessed via the M4 Motorway. Frequent bus services are also available from Chepstow Train station during racedays.

There are two standard ticket options for Chepstow racing, admitting entry into either the Premier Enclosure or Grandstand and Paddock Enclosure. Grandstand and Paddock badge holders can access all the food, betting and drinks option within the grandstand as well as great views over the track and the Parade Ring.

Premier Enclosure badge holders can access all these facilities too, in addition to the Premier Lawn, Parade Ring, and Winners Enclosure. The Premier Bar is also open to Premier badge holders as is the Premier Viewing Stand which has superb views over the finishing post.

Ticket prices start from £19 per person for Premier admission and £14 for the Grandstand and Paddock.
